Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on July 8, 1989 in Paris. When she was five, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire to attend the Dragon School. Emma was only six when she made the decision to become an actress. She studied for a number of years at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. From the age of 10 the actress took part in and played the leading role in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book was cast in the year 1999. Emma was identified by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions they and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. The film set records for beginning-day and weekend-opening sales and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics praised the film and its performances by the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. Later Emma was shortlisted for five prizes for her work in the film winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in the feature Film.
